HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
1. Purpose of Policy – We take health and safety issues seriously. As a HYDURAGE centre owner you must be committed to ensuring that you, your staff, clients and students are protected by the health and safety rules and regulations that we demand you have in place at all times within your place of business. This policy is intended to help you achieve this by clarifying who is responsible for those health and safety matters and what those responsibilities are.
2. This is a statement of policy only and does not form part of any contract with you. This policy may be changed and reviewed at any time by the centre owner and the head office of HYDURAGE.
3. Achieving a health and safe workplace is a collective task shared between you and your employees, if you have any. This policy and the rules contained in it apply to all centres and all centre staff, irrespective of seniority, tenure and working hours.
4. Specific responsibilities must be laid out by the centre owners to their staff and a safety policy kept within their premises.
YOU AS A CENTRE OWNER ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
A) Taking reasonable steps to safeguard the health and safety of staff, people affected by the employer’s business activities and of people visiting the premises:
B) Identifying health and safety risks and finding ways to manage and overcome them
C) Providing a safe and healthy place of work and safe entry and exit arrangements, including during an emergency situation;
D) Providing and maintaining safe work areas, equipment and systems and where necessary appropriate clothing;
E) Provide safe arrangements for the use, handling, storage and transportation of articles and substances.
F) Providing adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to enable all staff to do their work safely, to avoid hazards and contribute positively to their own health and safety at work.
G) If you have more than 5 employees you should designate one of them to be responsible for the health and safety of the workplace on a day to day basis. You must ensure that the person you make as the responsible person receives correct training on their responsibilities so they can carry out their functions effectively.
H) Providing a health and safety induction and appropriate training for the role.
I) Promoting effective communication between you and your members of staff concerning health and safety matters.
J) If an emergency situation arises, providing prior instructions, arrangements and advice to staff as to the organisation of the business operations and what steps must be taken.
K) Regularly monitoring of the health and safety at work and any changes that need to be made must be communicated to the staff at the time of change.
5. Any concerns about health and safety matters should be communicated to the responsible person.
Responsibilities of all HYDURAGE Centre Owners and their staff
6. All staff must take reasonable care to:
a) Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions;
b) Cooperate with the designated responsible person and Employer generally to enable compliance with health and safety duties and requirements;
c) Comply with all health and safety rules and regulations, including instruction on the safe use of the equipment;
d) Keep the work place tidy and hazard free;
e) Cooperate fully with HYDURAGE. and the centre owner if applicable, if an investigation of an incident or accident which has either led to injury or which could have led to injury
All staff, centre owners must
7. a) Use equipment as directed by any instructions given by representatives of management or contained in any written operating manual or instructions for use and any relevant training;
b) Report any incident that has involved an HYDURAGE. student to the Head office immediately, take picture evidence and written witness statements, to safeguard yourself and the student.
c) Have 1 person designated as a first aider within your place of business. If a accident or incident occurs when a person requires first aid, the incident must be documented, photographed and witness statements.
d) The person that is the designated responsible person for the health and safety reporting must if it is deemed necessary prepare and submit a report under (RIDDOR) reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations 2013.
e) Have a fire and evacuation instruction notice visible in their premises. Fire exits must be clearly marked. On the discovery of a fire call 999 and report and evacuate.
8. Risk Assessments, display screen equipment and manual handling
Risk assessments are a visual examination of the workplace that should be conducted daily, and a more thorough examination on a weekly basis. Where staff are using the computer screen they must have sufficient breaks after 20 minutes of use to avoid eyestrain.
Manual handling of heavy items should be monitored and witnessed. Manual handling advice should be given to the lifter prior so they understand the risks of improper handling and back, shoulder and hand injuries.
Non-compliance with health and safety rules.
Any breach of health and safety rules or failure to comply with this policy will be taken very seriously and is likely to result in suspension of acceptance of training and possibly the ownership of the HYDURAGE. centre.
